Jane Crowfoot Beaded Pine Winter Mitts
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Beaded Pine Winter Mitts

£6.95
In the winter months I get really cold hands, especially when typing, knitting, or crocheting, so I am always on the lookout for things to keep my fingers and wrists warm. I find mitts less restrictive than gloves and I have quite a few pairs so that I can mix and match what I am wearing. I think mitts help keep aches and pains in my wrists at bay during the cold weather too, as they keep everything nice and toasty! I wanted to design a pair of mitts with a simple ‘Scandi’ feel, looking at pine forests and snowy landscapes as the inspiration. The beaded tree is a little tricky to create, but I am so happy with the way it turned out after lots of sampling! To begin with the mitts are made as a flat piece from the top down, with the edging and cuffs made in the round afterwards. You can choose to make them with the beaded tree or without.

Pompom Quarterly Issue 42

£17.50
Issue 42: Autumn 2022 It's no secret that, when it comes to colour, texture, and pattern, we're maximalists through and through! This autumn, we decided to embrace this natural instinct of ours and curate a knit and crochet collection inspired by abundance. The result is 11 glorious designs with immense visual impact, highly satisfying and tactile motifs, and which echo the intricate aesthetic of the Arts and Crafts movement. The patterns are mesmerising, romantic, and somehow embody the wondrous generosity imbued in the act of making. Featuring designs by: Edda Lilja, Elena Dimchevska, Emma Ducher, Emma Janet, Erica Sufka, Fran López, Lucia Luciano, Maria Walters, Olivia Sczepanik, Weichien Chan, (The Petite Knitter), Yucca What's more, our autumn 2022 collection features an article by Aja Barber, an eminent figure in the pushback against fast fashion, who encourages us to think more about the clothes we pair with our handmade items. Spend a golden autumn afternoon reading our interview with embroidery extraordinaire, Tessa Perlow, and using Ella Hawkins' biscuit decorating tutorial to make confectionery which looks like your knitting.

Purl & Jane Piccadilly Tank Top
Patterns

Purl & Jane Piccadilly Tank Top

£4.50
Piccadilly Tank Top - Purl & Jane by Jane Ellison This is inspired by classic cables yet, as I do with all my designs, I worked on several swatches to make this an easy to knit cable. One, where once you were familiar with the repeats, you may sit and relax with it knowing when to cable and when to do your knits and purls. I love to design cable patterns that all have the same row repeat in them. The same row repeat means you can get to know what row to cable as I try to make this happen on all the techniques at the same time. The neck is square, so there isn’t any tricky working out of how to decrease over the cables, and it gives the tank top another classic touch. I love a good cable and this was fun to knit! I hope you find it fun too.

Laine Publishing Fair Isle Weekend

Laine Publishing Fair Isle Weekend

£30.00
Fair Isle Weekend takes you on an exciting trip to Fair Isle, a windswept island in Shetland, famous for its traditional colourwork knitting. During her many trips to Fair Isle, Mary Jane has been fascinated and inspired by the island's rich textile traditions, learning about Fair Isle knitting by looking at old textiles and sharing stories and knowledge around a cup of tea. Now, she has created a gorgeous collection of designs which she would take with her for a weekend trip to Shetland when a carry-on bag is all you take with you. 'So I invite you to join us, this small band of traveling friends, sharing a little glimpse of the isle from my outsider’s perspective. I offer you a small collection in my own style of Fair Isle knitting, which I hope honours the tradition, even though my work isn't especially traditional.' Mary Jane Mucklestone is a knitwear designer, teacher and author who has specialized in Fair Isle knitting, also called stranded knitting. Her work has been featured in publications like Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits and various books. Mary Jane has a varied background in art and textiles earning a BFA in Printmaking from Pratt Institute, studying fashion at Parsons School of Design and Textiles and Historic Costume at the University of Washington. With her friend Gudrun Jonston, they host popular once in a lifetime trips to Shetland. Fair Isle Weekend will be her fifth book. Find more about Mary Jane at MaryJaneMucklestone.com. This hardcover book contains 8 beautiful colourwork patterns ranging from small projects like wristlets to yoked sweaters (2 sweaters, 1 vest, 2 hats, 1 cowl, 1 pair of fingerless mitts, 1 pair of wristlets).

Purl & Jane Raydale Jumper
Patterns

Purl & Jane Raydale Jumper

£4.50
Raydale Jumper - Purl & Jane by Jane Ellison This is a fun stitch to do. It is a magical stitch! You are only using one colour in the row, even though it looks like you are using two at the same time. You are not, just the one, such fun! I love hearing about individual knitting stories: how people started knitting, what their grandmothers, mothers, aunts used to knit and I hear tales of grandfathers, fathers and uncles knitting too. This jumper is inspired by fisherman jumpers, not perhaps the traditional Guernseys, but ones in my own family history where my relatives wore similar jumpers while living by the seaside and fishing for leisure. To create a smooth stitch, I recommend that you s1 purlwise in this pattern. To fit: 1 to 10 years Recommended yarns: West Yorkshire Spinners Croft Aran
