Jane Crowfoot Mexican Diamonds Blanket
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Mexican Diamonds Blanket

£6.95
I really love traditional Mexican textiles and often look at woven fabrics, embroidery and crewel work for design inspiration. This design was also inspired by the repeated, jagged edged, diamonds found on woven rugs. I have created a flower motif to sit at the centre of this design to echo floral embroidery; I think the use of surface crochet slip stitches around the outside of the leaves enhances the idea of hand stitching. I am particularly pleased with the flowers that sit on the edge of the blanket as they create a really unusual border. I thoroughly enjoyed designing this project and I hope you will enjoy making it too! Blocked measurement: approximately 132cm (52in) x 110cm (43 1/2in)

Kate Davies Davaar

£22.00
Looking out beyond the lighthouse, there is once again that restless end-of-summer feeling: to knit a sweater, to tell a story, to turn your face to the sun as you prepare for darker nights and colder days … A collection of 10 designs, inspired by a beautiful tidal landscape Essays and photography, celebrating the island and its story Like many other artists, makers and writers, Kate Davies and Tom Barr have been inspired by Davaar, the spectacular tidal island whose rocky silhouette defines the Campbeltown coastline. Kate began by creating a new collection of garments and accessories and, alongside this balanced and varied range of Scottish knitwear, Kate and Tom tell the story of Davaar in words and pictures exploring the shifting relationship of land and water, the island’s distinctive and immediately recognisable built structures, its interesting wartime experience, and the controversial painting and preservation of what is now its most famous feature. With Tom’s beautiful photography celebrating the landscape of south Kintyre, this is a book to be inspired by, and to think with, as well as to knit from. It’s time to cast on, and to set forth for Davaar…

Purl & Jane Brockabank Jumper
Patterns

Purl & Jane Brockabank Jumper

£4.50
Brockabank Jumper - Purl & Jane by Jane Ellison I love this cable plait and try to use it wherever I can. This rib is another good one because I like to have a row off wherever possible – a row in the pattern where you can relax. In this rib, you have a knit row where you can relax, and in the cable you have the wrong side row where you don’t cable so you can relax here too. I think knitting should be relaxing so this combination works perfectly! And if you wanted an adult version then you’ll find one in my Simple Knits book!

Jane Crowfoot Bohemian Blooms Crochet Blanket
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Bohemian Blooms Crochet Blanket

£14.95
Bohemian Blooms - Jane Crowfoot This blanket design was inspired by the work of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant of The Bloomsbury Group and in particular their home 'Charleston Farmhouse' and the murals they painted at the nearby Berwick Village Church. I had wanted to design a project using Charleston as my inspiration for many years, so I decided that this project should be a trade heirloom piece. I have used a collection of high end Rowan Yarns, including Soft Yak and Baby Merino Silk in DK weight yarns and have also chosen to use beads for an extra focal point. The patterns for this project are available within a 96 page soft bound book 'Bohemian Blooms', which includes more detailed information about my design inspiration and step-by-step images for each of the crochet motifs. A new take on the traditional CAL style project. Work through at your own speed and in your chosen order using Jane's beautiful colour pattern book to guide you every step of the way!

Purl & Jane Clayton Baby Cardigan
Patterns

Purl & Jane Clayton Baby Cardigan

£4.50
Clayton Baby Cardigan - Purl & Jane by Jane Ellison This baby cardigan uses the same stitch pattern that I used on the adult Clayton Vest, the pattern I shared with you yesterday. I love this stitch detail. I also love moss stitch, there I’ve said it! When I say I love moss stitch in the studio to visiting knitters I get two replies – “Oh yes, I love it too” or “Do you, I don’t!” Never anything in between! So this pattern is perfect for knitters, n o matter which of those replies they would have given. There are a few rows of stocking stitch alternating with moss stitch so, if you love moss stitch, you can knit the stocking stitch getting excited about when you will start the moss stitch again and, if you don’t you can relax on the moss stitch rows knowing that soon you will be knitting the stocking stitch! To fit: Newborn to 2 years Recommended yarn: Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply This cardigan is unisex and I’ve kept it simple yet different by adding the button detail and then you can always add the perfect colour buttons on afterwards for baby. This cardigan is knitted in one piece until the armholes.

Pompom Quarterly Issue 15
Patterns

Pompom Quarterly Issue 15

£9.50
Issue 15: Winter 2015 Time to feast your eyes on our glam-tastic winter edition - all inspired by the Art Deco and Art Nouveau stylings of iconic 1960s-70s British brand, Boba. We have ten modern knits designed through the lens of the Biba aesthetic, which in turn was inspired by even earlier periods. We shot part of this issue in a 1920s style cocktail bar in London and in the spirit of reviving vintage trends (as Biba itself did in the 1960s and 1970s) our winter recipes are new takes on classic cocktails, adding a little extra seasonal spice and sparkle. Featuring designs by: Bristol Ivy, Olga Buraya-Kefelian, Cirilia Rose, Rachel Coopey, Courtney Spainhower, Kiyomi Burgin, Jemima Bicknell, Sophie Scott, Amu Van De Laar, Clare Lakewood. We are particularly smitten with Katie Green's Bowerbird comic, which beautifully illustrates the unending potential and dreams we have for newly acquired yarn. In addition to lovely illustrations, we have some excellent writing for you this issue, with articles on Activist Embroidery by Francesca Baldry, Lora Angelova's explorations as a Heritage Chemist, and Anna Maltz shares her ideas on beating the winter blues. So get a head start on beating those blues and join us in embracing the glamorous side of winter knitting with this line up of woolly lovelies.

Baa Ram Ewe York Minster
Patterns

Baa Ram Ewe York Minster

£5.00
York Minster - Alison Moreton A blanket inspired by the stained glass windows of York Minster, with three size options. Featuring four jewel coloured shades of Dovestone DK contrasted with dark grey borders in Coal. Constructed from garter stitch squares that are easy to make, requiring only knit stitches and simple increases and decreases: this a perfect project for beginners. Sizes small (medium, large) are 68x79 (90x112, 112x134)cm / 27x31 (35.5x44, 44x53)". The blanket shown uses 1 skein each of 5 colours of Dovestone DK: Coal, Rhubarb, Chevin, Lotherton and Parkin. There is very little left over, so if you want to make this size using only 1 skein of each colour make sure you knit exactly to tension (you can use your tension square as one of the blanket squares!). For a small (medium, large) blanket you will need 1 (2, 3) skeins of Dovestone DK in each of 5 colours/ 320m (640m, 1280m) of DK weight yarn. You will also need a 4mm/US 8 circular needle, minimum 80cm/32" length (you can knit the squares on straight needles if you prefer, but a circular needle is required for the border).

Use your favourite yarn, and knit at whatever gauge gives you the fabric you like best. You're in charge, you can't mess it up, and you're going to love the result!
