Pompom Quarterly Issue 37
Patterns

Pompom Quarterly Issue 37

£12.50
Issue 37: Summer 2021 Swooping into Summer with knit and crochet patterns which will make your soul soar! For Issue 37, we asked the designers to take their inspiration from the alluring textures and glorious colours of birds. These talented individuals have taken our cue and stretched their wings! We were so impressed with their imaginative interpretations of our theme as they have thought so carefully about every aspect of these animals: from the shape of their footprints in snow to their sky formations. Within the pages of our Summer 2021 collection, you can expect nine patterns which are as elegant and dynamic as the airborne creatures they reference. Featuring designs by: Allison Lutes, Carlie Olfert, Chloe Elizabeth Birch, Kjerstin Rovetta, Ksenia Naidyon, Sandra Gutierrez, Sari Nordlund, Valerie Rachel. In addition to 9 knit and crochet patterns, a recipe, an article, and a tutorial are nested into the pages of PPQ37! Fiona Churchman blew us away with her recipe for Feather Bread (a pandan coconut milk loaf) inspired by the treats she used to buy from London's Chinatown bakeries before lockdown! Be sure to read Solène Le Roux's insightful musings on how birds and humans can adapt to their surroundings. And Nuria Casadella-Puigvert of GANXXET walks you through how to make colourful chains for your sunglasses and face masks for when you're out and about this summer! Included in your digital download of PPQ37 is a bonus tutorial from Nuria which shows you how to make a chain for your binoculars or camera - perfect for spotting birds and snapping a photo of them.

Jane Crowfoot Twinkle Bunting
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Twinkle Bunting

£6.95
I love how decorating the house at Christmas time brings back so many family memories. We have some decorations that date back quite a few generations and I especially like these old pieces. When setting out to design this bunting I wanted to create some crochet motifs that echoed the shape of our precious vintage Christmas tree baubles. I have added beads, bells and little 'shisha' mirrors to add a touch of sparkle and I am so pleased with the results. The pattern for the bunting is written with three classic shades in mind - Navy, Mustard and Grey, but you could raid your stash for multicoloured left overs to create a very different, vibrant look.

Baa Ram Ewe Pond Street
Patterns

Baa Ram Ewe Pond Street

£5.00
Pond Street - Alison Moreton Inspired by Sheffield railway station, known at times as Pond Street station, a shawlette knitted in three colours of Titus. The roof line of the station is represented in a chevron pattern in the border of the shawlette. Short rows aid the transition to the body of the shawl, which is shaped into a shallow crescent with more short rows. No wrapping or picking up of wraps is required, however, as all short rows are completed with easy decrease stitches. The finished size is 29cm/11.5" deep and 120cm/47" along the top (short) edge. MC - 1 skein of baa ram ewe Titus / 320m/350yds of 4ply/fingering weight yarn. CC: 64m/70yds of each of two contrast colours of 4ply/fingering weight yarn. The shawl shown uses 1 skein of Titus in Endeavour as MC and 2 10g mini skeins each of 2 contrast colours of Titus (Rhubarb and Lotherton). You will also need a 4mm/US 6 circular needle, at least 80cm/32" long, and 23 stitch markers.

Kate Davies Inkling
Patterns

Kate Davies Inkling

£20.00
An inkling might be regarded as the very beginning of a thought … After an inspiring residency with the British Council and Applied Arts Scotland, Kate Davies took up inkle weaving and found that the experience of learning a new skill, completely from scratch, profoundly revivified her creative practice. Learning how to weave narrow patterned bands on an inkle loom allowed Kate to reflect upon the interconnections between different cultures and practices of making across the global north and south, and also helped her to approach the design process in a new way. The fifteen creative and colourful projects in this book are the result of such reflections. Alongside eleven patterns for hand-knitting — produced in Kate’s signature clear style, across an inclusive size range—are a selection of simple projects to weave on an inkle loom. This fresh, spirited, and colourful collection reveals the far-reaching creative potential of approaching design with a beginner’s mind and asking oneself, what if? Might you be inspired by some inklings of your own? Book includes 11 garment and accessory patterns for hand-knitting in Kate’s Milarrochy Tweed yarn, plus 4 drafts for plain and pick-up patterns to weave on an inkle loom. A Ravelry download code is included.

Nicki Trench Cute & Easy Crochet

£12.99
Cute & Easy Crochet - Nicki Trench Nicki Trench, a crochet teacher and author with over 20 years’ experience, has designed a series of patterns that will guide you through those initial stitches to producing beautiful projects incorporating a wide range of crochet techniques. ‘Crochet Know-How’ explains all the stitches with clear step-by-step artworks and instructions. Next, discover three chapters packed with patterns to improve your skills. First is ‘Starting Out’, where you will find a simple springtime throw and a pretty hat for a toddler – you’ll be amazed how easy and quick the projects are to create. Once you’ve mastered these, move on to something more challenging in the ‘Practice Makes Perfect’ chapter. There are cute gifts for babies and young children, including baby bibs and blankets, or treat yourself to a pair of gloves in soft double knit yarn or the chunky seashells scarf to keep you warm on chilly mornings. Finally, ‘Confident Crocheting’ has more advanced patterns, from a family of adorable Russian dolls to the cherub dress with decorative picot stitching.

Purl & Jane Spencer Scarf
Patterns

Purl & Jane Spencer Scarf

£4.50
Spencer Scarf - Purl & Jane by Jane Ellison I designed this scarf before I opened the Purl &Jane studio for a pattern book. I had tried other variations before I settle on this stitch pattern and ever since I have been addicted to it. It wasn’t until two years after I designed the Spencer Scarf that I opened the studio and the joy of that is seeing all your Spencer Scarf creations. The shades you picked and how they turned to is forever fascinating because it doesn’t matter how you think the colours are going t behave you just never know until you knit it! I like all my patterns to be simple to knit and this is indeed a simple knit, yet it looks so complicated. It excites me how the stitch patterning works with the three row striped pattern. I like all my scarf patterns to work on both sides so that the ‘reverse’ looks just as good as the ‘right side’ if there was one. And this is true of the Spencer Scarf, I love the smooth stitches on one side and the texture on the other side. This is why I love knitting, small simple details can create an impressive look! Measurements: 17cm x 178cm Recommended yarns: West Yorkshire Spinners Fleece Bluefaced Leicester DK

Pom Pom Publishing Knits About Winter
Patterns

Pom Pom Publishing Knits About Winter

£21.50
Knits About Winter by Emily Foden Knits About Winter celebrates the quiet magic of a snowy landscape, the meditative joy of creating cosy knits, and the beauty of unique yarn. A collection of 12 knitting patterns by Emily Foden, these designs capture the magic and mystery of winter, all featuring her distinctive hand-dyed yarns. Emily moved to the small hamlet of Mooresburg, Canada, to set up her home and dye studio in a 100 year-old general store. In her remote location, winter meant layers of snow and ice, transforming the wild landscape into a sparkling blank canvas that became a valuable source of inspiration. Each pattern draws details from this wintry landscape: soft shapes in the snow, the moon in an icy midnight sky, the delicate evergreen berries. With careful consideration of practical design details that make these knits functional for the coldest of days, Knits About Winter features hats, mittens, socks, shawls, and four garments. Also included are Emily’s charming stories of setting up her dye studio, as well as how she developed her colourways and the designs for the book. Photographed by the author during a snowy Mooresburg winter, each image is a peek into the sceney and spaces that were integral to the book. Knits About Winter is book to a treasure, and in the colder months will encourage you find the beauty and colour in the darkest season, evoking the warm glow that only beautiful knits can.
