Laine Publishing Magazine Issue 22

£22.00
Laine Issue 22, August 2024 Our Autumn issue Laine 22, Aalto, features cosy yet stylish knits for the season! The issue is also a celebration of architecture — the photos were taken in the Paimio Sanatorium, designed by the famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. The building’s unique colours and shapes offered the perfect backdrop to our autumn knits, full of interesting styles and techniques from cables and lace to textured patterns. Designers featured in this issue: Anna Daku, Inés García Suárez, Maria Gomes, Gudrun Johnston, Pauliina Leisti, Yukie Onodera, Eri Shimizu, Megumi Shinagawa, Karoline Skovgaard Bentsen, Ayano Tanaka and Maaike van Geijn. Issue 22, Autumn 2024, includes:
  • 148 pages
  • 11 knitting patterns (both charts and written instructions provided): 6 sweaters, 2 cardigans and 3 shawls.
  • An interview with the Finnish knitwear designer Jenna Kostet, who has turned the poems of the famous epic, Kalevala, into tradition-inspired knitwear patterns and charmed both Finnish and international knitters.
  • An article about circular economy in the world of yarn — how recycled yarns can be turned into a sustainable and viable business, with end products that delight knitters.
  • Jeanette Sloan’s column Fibre Talk, where she chats with Alyson Chu: an Edinburgh-based Chinese American podcaster, designer and publisher of the crochet magazine Moorit, among other things.
  • Five Ways by our regular writer Päivi Kankaro, where we get to read expert’s tips for yarn substitutions in knitting patterns.
  • Where I Knit: A regular piece that pictures people knitting in their favourite spot. In this issue, we meet Jessica Antonio-Notarianni who knits at the beach on Jersey Shore, USA.
  • Seasonal recipes to inspire your autumn cooking.
  • Book reviews.

Jane Crowfoot Magic Circles Scarf

Jane Crowfoot Magic Circles Scarf

£6.95
I love looking at how shapes fit together and had wanted to create a tessellating circle design for some time. Circular motifs can be tricky to fit together and it is common to find the circular shape becomes slightly distorted when motifs are pieced together, so rather than create motifs that are square or octagonal, I have designed cross-shaped infill pieces that protect the shape of the large circles. Finished blocked measurements: approx 117cm (46in) x 117cm (46in).

Jane Crowfoot Catalina Beaded Pouch

Jane Crowfoot Catalina Beaded Pouch

£6.95
I was so lucky to tutor an amazing textile workshop trip to Peru during the summer of 2024. It is a truly incredible country, and I adored it! This is the pattern for the crochet pouch project that I designed for participants to work on during our trip. It is mainly worked in panels so that the project is portable and easy to work on while travelling. Crocheting just a few stitches in rows can be quite quick to do and using stitch markers will help you keep track of your row count. Peru has an amazing heritage of textile and yarn production, so I decided it was suitable to use a beautiful yarn that includes alpaca fibre from Rowan Yarns. I also used some lovely beads from the Debbie Abrahams range which, I think, give the project an extra special quality.

The Crochet Project Pick and Mix
Patterns

The Crochet Project Pick and Mix

£12.00
Pick and Mix - The Crochet Project A collection five crochet garments and accessories incorporating colourwork designs with endless variations. Using this book, you can create your own completely unique design by pairing your choice of sweater, cardigan or hat with your choice of four colourwork patterns and your choice of four main stitch patterns. They all work beautifully together without the need for any extra maths. We've even included the maths and pattern writing assumptions so you can have a go at designing your own stitch patterns if you'd like to. Each stitch pattern is written and charted, and we have included lots of advice throughout the book to help you create the perfect item even if it is your first garment. Although the colourwork looks complicated, each pattern uses only one colour at a time (no stranding) and we've added some tips on how to avoid getting into a tangle. There's also the chance to make a patch pocket or a hat to get practice with the colourwork pattern before you dive in. We want this book to be for everybody and every body. The patterns are suitable for age 2 upwards, are all unisex and offer inclusive sizing and fitting options. We've used a common weight of yarn that is widely available at all price points, so whether you live for indie hand dyed or want to pick up your yarn at the discount supermarket, this book will work well for you. Featured yarns - CoopKnits Socks Yeah! DK

Tin Can Knits Photosynthesis

Tin Can Knits Photosynthesis

£5.50
Knit in Lace or 4ply weight yarn. Graceful leafy lace radiates outward, forming a generous scarf-sized shawl. For lace (fingering) weight versions finished shawl measures 50 (68)” wide and 21 (24)” deep. More repeats can be worked to increase the size of the shawl but this will require more yarn. Finished size will vary depending on how aggressively the finished shawl is blocked. If you are adding beads to your shawl you will need a 0.6 mm crochet hook and 1300 (1000) #06 size beads (or more for larger shawl).

£12.50
Issue 27: Winter 2018 We are honoured to collaborate with Norah Gaughan as our winter issue guest editor, and nothing could have prepared us for the beauty and drama of the results. The knits in this issue are imagined for the modern heroine. Create your own knitted armour with swirling cables and sculptural stitch details; it's time to celebrate texture and sumptuous colours! Our stellar lineup curated by Norah, including the designer herself, features: Andrea Rangel, Boadicea Binnerts, Caitlin Hunter, Cirilia Rose, Honor Adams, Joji Locatelli, Linda Marveng, Véronik Avery, Xandy Peters Also packed into our winter issue is a column by our resident columnist Anna Maltz exploring knitting beyond traditions, we have a Q&A session with Norah, and a recipe for a braided challah bread - just as comforting and squishy as knitted cables.

Jane Crowfoot Magic Circles Blanket

When making the small infill circles you are asked to make a magic loop to start. You can find a technique download that explains how to do this by following this link. Instructions on how to add surface crochet can be found by following this link. The pattern includes a clear layout plan and a chart is also included for reference when joining the small circles. Pompom Quarterly Issue 32

£12.50
Issue 32: Spring 2020 Spring is just around the corner to reinvigorate us with longer days and buds bursting forth. We’re welcoming sweet spring breezes with our first theme of the new decade: air. This precious and fragile element unites us, and our designers translated this ethereal concept into tangible knits and crochet. Each pattern captures the spaces between the stitches, with gauzy mohairs, modern lace, and airy open textures. Featuring designs by: Amalia Sieber, Brontë Swannick, Camila Larsen Esveile, Joji Locatelli, Lana Jois, Mara Licole Taylor, Meghan Fernandes, Nataliya Sinelshchikova, Rosemary (Romi) Hill, Wencke Petermann. For art direction and styling, we collaborated with multi-disciplinary artist Ocean Rose to capture this collection of atmospheric patterns. Ocean also lends their talents for a how-to on flower arranging so you can create your own welcome to spring with a floating botanical decoration. Your taste buds will be catered for by Kat Goldin's meringue recipe, and finally we have an interview with body-positive activist and designer Jacqueline Cieslack. Pause, take a deep breath and find your space this spring.
