Purl & Jane Tavistock Gloves
Patterns

Purl & Jane Tavistock Gloves

£4.50
Tavistock Gloves - Purl & Jane by Jane Ellison I designed the pattern that I’m sharing with you today, the Tavistock Gloves, because a super lovely knitting beginner, who I helped her knit her first pair of socks, wanted to knit gloves….but on two needles (even though she totally bossed knitting on dpns!) so I designed these for her. It took me a while because the last time I wore hand knitted gloves they were were fingerless ones when I was a teenager but I had designed Frankie Fingerless mittens so I used a combination of memory and the Frankie pattern to get these right. This pattern was launched at Yarndale 2019 and lots of people with different hand sizes tried these gloves on and they fitted every one, they are magical gloves! They are also magical – and so simple – to knit.

Pompom Quarterly Issue 34
Patterns

Pompom Quarterly Issue 34

£12.50
Issue 34: Autumn 2020 This autumn issue of Pom Pom sees our collaboration with the multidisciplinary artist Ocean Rose. Their theme of 'Home' makes for a dreamy collection of cosy autumnal knits, evoking the places that bring connection and comfort. This inspiration was chosen long before our current situation of sheltering in place, and has brought about the unique challenge of our models capturing this quarter's beautiful knits with micro-shoots in their abodes. Ocean, known for their naturally hand-dyed yarns, has brought their poetic voice, palette, thoughtfulness and sensitivity to these pages. Our designers have conjured their own interpretations of home with pieces that create a sense of warmth, not just against autumn chills, with references to traditional patterns and their bonds to special places. Featuring designs by: Sylvia Watts-Cherry, Aurélie Tixier, Tressa Weidenaar, Armenuhi Avanian, Malia Mae Joseph, Audrey Borrego, A L Leong, Isabel Alé, Tiffany Wong, Weichien Chan, ThePetiteKnitter. Alongside the patterns we have articles from Sukrita Mahon sharing their wisdom on choosing yarns, and Elliot Maud on self expression and belonging in the fibre community. Cat Seixas shares her recipe for a no-bake cheesecake, an easy dish which is the ideal excuse to find the occasion to celebrate. For makers, mending seems to go hand-in-hand and Maya Skylark provides a tutorial for a pocket sized tool kit that you can keep close to home. We acknowledge the privilege reflected in these pages that show the warmth and happiness of home. We hope this issue can speak to a deeper sense of safety and belonging than just the place you rest your head. As Ocean puts it, 'Home is where you are, where your energy rests, home changes, and transforms. Home is our connection to all we hold sacred. Home is..'

Jane Crowfoot Fields of Gold Blanket
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Fields of Gold Blanket

£6.95
I love botanical drawings and so a few years ago I purchased a fabulous book from Kew Gardens with the most wonderful illustrations. There is a page within the book that features sunflowers, hellebores and opium poppy seed heads and it made me think of the fields of sunflowers we walked through on a lovely french holiday a few years ago. I have always loved sunflowers with all of their connotations to heat and sunshine. Vincent Van Gogh, whose series of sunflower still life studies are infamous, saw these stunning flowers as a symbol of friendship and gratitude, so using them as the inspiration for a design was inevitable. As wild poppies are commonplace in fields of sunflowers, it was logical that this design should feature them too. Blocked Measurement: Approximately 120cm (47 1/4in) square
