Pompom Quarterly Issue 29
Patterns

Pompom Quarterly Issue 29

£12.50
Issue 29: Summer 2019 The nine designs in this issue were inspired by ceramic tiles, terracotta, and sand, so expect earthy shades with splashes of colour and organic, repeating patterns. For your summer wardrobe, we have essential summer tops and tees, a cardigan, a shawl, and a crochet bag - all light and breezy for warmer days. Featuring designs by: Amy Christoffers, Sari Norlund, Soraya García, Isa Catepillán, Clare Lakewood, Josée Paquine, Marjorie Martin, Rachael Reese, Stephanie Earp. This issue includes an interview with Emi Ito, who answers our questions of creativity and misappropriation. 'Learning and Unlearning' unpicks the issues of cultural appropriation and diversity: important topics which we have been re-evaluating. We also have yarn-free projects to enjoy while the sun shines. If you're on the lookout for a new craft to try, we have a project bag tutorial by artist Arrounna Khounnoraj of Bookhou. She'll show you how to block-print your own fabric, perfect for creating your own tile-inspired tessellating patterns! Plus Rebecca Lawrence's recipe for her Maple Bourbon Fudge is an easy way to whip up an impressive sweet treat to share with friends.

Arnall-Culliford Knitwear Boost Your Knitting Another Year of Techniques

£22.00
Jen and Jim Arnall-Culliford of AC Knitwear have a passion for teaching knitters new techniques clearly and simply. Remember when you finally learned how to ride your bike? Wasn't that an awesome day? We haven't forgotten how great it felt to take the stabilisers off, so we've got a brand new year of learning for you to enjoy. Twelve new techniques, twelve patterns from twelve fabulous designers, twelve sets of photo and video tutorials, and most importantly, twelve opportunities for you to experience the joy of mastering something new! Boost Your Knitting is a completely self-contained programme that will grow your skills and build your confidence in your knitting. It follows a similar format to our first book, A Year of Techniques, but does not require any previous knowledge from that collection. Each of the monthly projects is for an accessory, allowing you to complete each project in a reasonable amount of time. The projects are accompanied by stepwise photo tutorials as well as online video tutorials, and you can join in with the knitalong threads for each project over in our Ravelry group. Projects include: Bramen Cowl by Nancy Marchant (Tuck stitches) Sterlyn Shawl by Joji Locatelli (Correcting mistakes in lace knitting) Totally Tubular Mittens by Sarah Hatton (Tubular cast-on method in the round) Apple Swizzle Hat by Thea Colman (Dip stitches) Heartgyle Socks by Julia Farwell-Clay (Intarsia in the round) Skystone Armwarmers by Felicity (Felix) Ford (Choosing colours for stranded colourwork) Flying Leaves Scarf by Carol Feller (Brioche knitting, including increases and decreases) Marangoni Hat by Tori Seierstad (Joining in yarns for colourwork) Sooper Sweater by Anna Maltz (Marlisle) Peaks and Troughs Hat by Jen Arnall-Culliford (Double knitting, including decreases) Alcedo Socks by Wendy D. Pompom Quarterly Issue 38

£12.50
Issue 38: Autumn 2021 Our Autumn 2021 collection celebrates trees: their roots, branches, and everything in-between! In our 38th issue, you can look forward to luscious cable patterns which mimic labyrinths of roots and statuesque boughs, clever colourwork and textures designed to imitate oft-overlooked plantlife, and patterns which reference the enchanted forests of fairy tales. Autumn is a transitional season, so alongside trusty pullovers and cardigans, you’ll find accessories which are perfect for furling in your coat pocket or rucksack for when the weather takes a chilly turn. Featuring designs by: Anna Husemann, Audrey Borrego, Catherine Clark, Denise Otter, Reed Keyes, Heidi Kästner, Tyra Smith, Yi?itcan Vatansever & Zanete Hussain. Burrow down into Issue 38 and you'll find two articles, a tutorial, and a recipe in addition to nine knit and crochet patterns! Dawn Henderson invites us to introduce magick into our handicrafts by sharing her experiences of Hoodoo (or African American rootwork). Drawing on her expertise in microplastics, Tereza Pavlíková raises important questions about the textile industry and pollution, and Caitlin Ffrench demonstrates how you can make charcoal and ink from dried plant material! Issue 38's knit and crochet garments will keep you toasty from the outside, but Fi Churchman’s ginger pudding recipe will warm you from within!

Jane Crowfoot Mystical Lanterns Scarf
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Mystical Lanterns Scarf

£6.95
TThe name of a repeated tessellating design, like the one I have used in this design, is called an 'Ogee' pattern in Arabesque design. It took me a few weeks to get the design of these blocks right; initially I came up with lots of really complicated ways to create this motif, but in the end it was so simple - funny how sometimes a design process can take so long and then the outcome can be so easy to make! The pattern for the lantern shape motif is based on a granny hexagon pattern, but I have made a few changes to come up with the curved design the tessellates. Finished blocked measurement: Approximately 22.5cm (9in) at widest point, 174cm (68 1/2in) long to end of central strip of motif - add extra length with optional fringe.
