Laine Publishing Fair Isle Weekend
Patterns

Laine Publishing Fair Isle Weekend

£30.00
Fair Isle Weekend takes you on an exciting trip to Fair Isle, a windswept island in Shetland, famous for its traditional colourwork knitting. During her many trips to Fair Isle, Mary Jane has been fascinated and inspired by the island's rich textile traditions, learning about Fair Isle knitting by looking at old textiles and sharing stories and knowledge around a cup of tea. Now, she has created a gorgeous collection of designs which she would take with her for a weekend trip to Shetland when a carry-on bag is all you take with you. 'So I invite you to join us, this small band of traveling friends, sharing a little glimpse of the isle from my outsider’s perspective. I offer you a small collection in my own style of Fair Isle knitting, which I hope honours the tradition, even though my work isn't especially traditional.' Mary Jane Mucklestone is a knitwear designer, teacher and author who has specialized in Fair Isle knitting, also called stranded knitting. Her work has been featured in publications like Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits and various books. Mary Jane has a varied background in art and textiles earning a BFA in Printmaking from Pratt Institute, studying fashion at Parsons School of Design and Textiles and Historic Costume at the University of Washington. With her friend Gudrun Jonston, they host popular once in a lifetime trips to Shetland. Fair Isle Weekend will be her fifth book. Find more about Mary Jane at MaryJaneMucklestone.com. This hardcover book contains 8 beautiful colourwork patterns ranging from small projects like wristlets to yoked sweaters (2 sweaters, 1 vest, 2 hats, 1 cowl, 1 pair of fingerless mitts, 1 pair of wristlets).

Jen and Jim Arnall-Culliford of AC Knitwear have a passion for teaching knitters new techniques clearly and simply. How confident are you when it comes to your knitting? When you see a pattern that uses an unfamiliar technique, do you dive straight in? Or do you find yourself knitting the same sorts of projects over and over again? There’s so much to be gained from learning something new, but all too often, people shy away from it. Confident Knitting: A Third Year of Techniques is designed to help you tackle new projects with, well, utmost confidence! This technique-based programme features twelve patterns, from twelve amazing designers supported with twelve photo and video tutorials – giving you twelve chances to find some new joy in your knitting! Confident Knitting follows a similar format to our previous books A Year of Techniques and Boost Your Knitting, but, like both of those publications, is a completely self-contained programme, so there’s no need to have already worked through any of our previous publications! Jane Crowfoot Magic Circles Scarf

Jane Crowfoot Magic Circles Scarf

£6.95
I love looking at how shapes fit together and had wanted to create a tessellating circle design for some time. Circular motifs can be tricky to fit together and it is common to find the circular shape becomes slightly distorted when motifs are pieced together, so rather than create motifs that are square or octagonal, I have designed cross-shaped infill pieces that protect the shape of the large circles. Finished blocked measurements: approx 117cm (46in) x 117cm (46in).
