Issue 46: Autumn 2023 Collaborating with creatives we admire is one of the great joys of making Pom Pom. Candice English of The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers has been an inspiration to us for a long time, both as a dyer and as an advocate for Indigenous women. We are thrilled to welcome Candice as Guest Editor for this issue. Candice has brought a fresh perspective to these pages, along with her distinctive aesthetic, drawing from both her Indigenous roots and life in the American West. We are so grateful to her for sharing herself, her work, and her family with us. It’s an honour to be trusted with the stories and creativity of each contributor to this autumn issue. The patterns in this issue are a representation of hard and soft duality in the American West. The hard work embedded in the people of Montana is a result of the softness you find in the spirit of Indigenous homelands. You will find classic designs that can be worn in utilitarian ways but also jazzed up a bit for social outings. Aran - Marie Wallin ARAN is the first collection using the new British Breeds Aran yarn. The designs are mainly inspired by traditional Fairisle motifs, ornamental patterning, more intricate twisted stitch, and traditional cabling textures. The garment silhouettes are an easier or oversized fit except for ‘Budle’ and ‘Alnwick’, which are more fitted. Within the collection, there are 7 designs which are knitted in the round, 4 of which use steeks. There are 5 sweater designs, 4 cardigan designs, 1 slipover design and 2 accessory designs, a total of 12 amazing designs! Featured yarns - British Breed Aran

Knitting Season is any time of year in which we are able to sit down and enjoy the craft we love, setting time aside to relax, explore, experiment and create. Kate's new collection is the result of one such season of extended creativity. Issue 39: Winter 2021 The knit and crochet designs in Issue 39 are inspired by rhythm! Our Winter 2021 collection is packed with patterns which honour echoes, explore semitonal shifts in colour, and include repeating motifs to allow you to get into a stitching groove. We love how the designers have taken our auditory theme and created patterns which highlight the aspects of rhythm we see, such as written musical scores and the visual representation of soundwaves. Kiyomi and Sachiko Burgin are the authors of this issue's handmade lip balm tutorial, so you can combat chapped lips brought on by cold weather and even have some non-knitted handmade gifts ready for the festive season.
