Jane Crowfoot Persian Tiles Blanket
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Persian Tiles Blanket

£6.95
This crochet blanket design is based on traditional Persian ceramic patterns. The project is relatively simple in construction, consisting of just 4 different motifs; the main octagon piece surrounded by variations on granny squares and triangles. In 2013 I designed a project for my crochet club using Persian and Moroccan textiles and architecture as my inspiration. The resulting blanket was exclusive to my crochet club members, so the pattern is no longer available. It is a theme I wanted to revisit though, as the colours and shapes work so well in crochet and we are constantly asked for a project that echoes the original design. This blanket is simpler in construction than the original crochet club project and there are just four different motifs within the design; the main octagon piece, of which you need to make sixteen, is surrounded by variations on granny squares and triangles in shades of blue and cream. The project is relatively simple to make and I really enjoyed designing it. Pattern available in UK & US terminology, includes written instructions and charts. Blocked measurement: approximately 115cm (45 1/4in) x 115cm (45 1/4in).

Jamieson & Smith A Shetland Story

Jamieson & Smith A Shetland Story

£19.99
Shetland textiles have for centuries been loved and admired across the globe. With our characterful sheep and instantly recognisable styles of Fair Isle and Shetland Lace knitting, the Shetland islands have long been associated with a thriving local wool industry. At the heart of this industry is Jamieson & Smith, Shetland Woolbrokers, who have been buying and selling Real Shetland Wool since the 1930s. Today, Jamieson & Smith is run by a skilled and passionate team who continue to build on the company's proud legacy. Inside this book, you'll find out about the people who founded, built and sustained the Shetland Woolbrokers, and discover the history of this world-famous textile brand. To celebrate both our heritage and our future, we've commissioned ten handknit designs. Drawing on the distinctive legacies of Shetland Lace and Fair Isle knitting, worked in our yarns, and photographed right here in Shetland, these signature handknits unite the story of Shetland wool together with the rich textile heritage of the islands. Designs from Sandra Manson, Kharis Leggate, Ella Gordon, Mary Henderson, Gudrun Johnston, Mary Jane Mucklestone, Lesley Smith.

Laine Publishing Fair Isle Weekend

Laine Publishing Fair Isle Weekend

£30.00
Fair Isle Weekend takes you on an exciting trip to Fair Isle, a windswept island in Shetland, famous for its traditional colourwork knitting. During her many trips to Fair Isle, Mary Jane has been fascinated and inspired by the island's rich textile traditions, learning about Fair Isle knitting by looking at old textiles and sharing stories and knowledge around a cup of tea. Now, she has created a gorgeous collection of designs which she would take with her for a weekend trip to Shetland when a carry-on bag is all you take with you. 'So I invite you to join us, this small band of traveling friends, sharing a little glimpse of the isle from my outsider’s perspective. I offer you a small collection in my own style of Fair Isle knitting, which I hope honours the tradition, even though my work isn't especially traditional.' Mary Jane Mucklestone is a knitwear designer, teacher and author who has specialized in Fair Isle knitting, also called stranded knitting. Her work has been featured in publications like Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits and various books. Mary Jane has a varied background in art and textiles earning a BFA in Printmaking from Pratt Institute, studying fashion at Parsons School of Design and Textiles and Historic Costume at the University of Washington. With her friend Gudrun Jonston, they host popular once in a lifetime trips to Shetland. Fair Isle Weekend will be her fifth book. Find more about Mary Jane at MaryJaneMucklestone.com. This hardcover book contains 8 beautiful colourwork patterns ranging from small projects like wristlets to yoked sweaters (2 sweaters, 1 vest, 2 hats, 1 cowl, 1 pair of fingerless mitts, 1 pair of wristlets).
