Jane Crowfoot Magic Circles Blanket
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Magic Circles Blanket

£6.95
I love looking at how shapes fit together and had wanted to create a tessellating circle design for some time. Circular motifs can be tricky to fit together and it is common to find the circular shape becomes slightly distorted when motifs are pieced together, so rather than create motifs that are square or octagonal, I have designed cross-shaped infill pieces that protect the shape of the large circles. When making the small infill circles you are asked to make a magic loop to start. You can find a technique download that explains how to do this by following this link. Instructions on how to add surface crochet can be found by following this link. The pattern includes a clear layout plan and a chart is also included for reference when joining the small circles. Finished blocked measurements: Approximately 117cm (46in) x 117cm (46in).

Laine Publishing Magazine Issue 22

£22.00
Laine Issue 22, August 2024 Our Autumn issue Laine 22, Aalto, features cosy yet stylish knits for the season! The issue is also a celebration of architecture — the photos were taken in the Paimio Sanatorium, designed by the famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. The building’s unique colours and shapes offered the perfect backdrop to our autumn knits, full of interesting styles and techniques from cables and lace to textured patterns. Designers featured in this issue: Anna Daku, Inés García Suárez, Maria Gomes, Gudrun Johnston, Pauliina Leisti, Yukie Onodera, Eri Shimizu, Megumi Shinagawa, Karoline Skovgaard Bentsen, Ayano Tanaka and Maaike van Geijn. Issue 22, Autumn 2024, includes:
  • 148 pages
  • 11 knitting patterns (both charts and written instructions provided): 6 sweaters, 2 cardigans and 3 shawls.
  • An interview with the Finnish knitwear designer Jenna Kostet, who has turned the poems of the famous epic, Kalevala, into tradition-inspired knitwear patterns and charmed both Finnish and international knitters.
  • An article about circular economy in the world of yarn — how recycled yarns can be turned into a sustainable and viable business, with end products that delight knitters.
  • Jeanette Sloan’s column Fibre Talk, where she chats with Alyson Chu: an Edinburgh-based Chinese American podcaster, designer and publisher of the crochet magazine Moorit, among other things.
  • Five Ways by our regular writer Päivi Kankaro, where we get to read expert’s tips for yarn substitutions in knitting patterns.
  • Where I Knit: A regular piece that pictures people knitting in their favourite spot. In this issue, we meet Jessica Antonio-Notarianni who knits at the beach on Jersey Shore, USA.
  • Seasonal recipes to inspire your autumn cooking.
  • Book reviews.

Pompom Quarterly Issue 46

£17.50
Issue 46: Autumn 2023 Collaborating with creatives we admire is one of the great joys of making Pom Pom. Candice English of The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers has been an inspiration to us for a long time, both as a dyer and as an advocate for Indigenous women. We are thrilled to welcome Candice as Guest Editor for this issue. Candice has brought a fresh perspective to these pages, along with her distinctive aesthetic, drawing from both her Indigenous roots and life in the American West. We are so grateful to her for sharing herself, her work, and her family with us. It’s an honour to be trusted with the stories and creativity of each contributor to this autumn issue. The patterns in this issue are a representation of hard and soft duality in the American West. The hard work embedded in the people of Montana is a result of the softness you find in the spirit of Indigenous homelands. You will find classic designs that can be worn in utilitarian ways but also jazzed up a bit for social outings. Featuring designs by: Allison Lutes, Esti Juango, Elena Solier Jansà, Natalie Bullock, Sandy Jones, Lindsey Fowler, Lena Zharichenko, Lee Ann Yazzie, Imke von Nathusius, Tin Can Knits

£9.50
Issue 23: Winter 2017 Darker nights mean knitted delights! Taking inspiration from gems, geological forms, and geometric shapes, our Winter Issue is packed full of designs with vivid hues. Intriguing texture and colour comes courtesy of fair isle, two-colour brioche, stripes, and slipped stitches. All set against a series of hand painted backdrops, made for us by abstract artist Kim Whiteside, this issue aims to satisfy your colour cravings in the form of 5 sweaters, 2 hats, faded socks, and 2 sumptuous shawls to keep you cosy. Featuring designs by: Amy Christoffers, Andrea Mowry, Astrid Troland, Debra Gerhard, Emily Greene, Maja Möller, Lesley Anne Robinson, Julie Dubreux, Paula Pereira, and Tatyana Scotce. Alongside the patterns we have a jewel-toned winter salad to keep things bright, Francesca Baldry reflects on the history of the button, plus Anna Maltz muses on what makes us keep picking up our needles and casting on anew, project after project. Speaking of projects, before you choose which of the multi-hued patterns to cast on, check out Juju Vail’s article discussing ideas and apps to get your colour juices flowing.

Pompom Quarterly Issue 44

Pompom Quarterly Issue 44

£17.50
Issue 44: Spring 2023 You never know what the day will bring with spring, so it’s the perfect season for layering! All of the pieces in this issue play with opacity, texture, and colourwork, layering techniques, tones, and transparency - sometimes all at once! Our initial inspiration for this issue came from layering in images such as risographs, shadows, and superimposed photos, which got us thinking about printing and how it works. As a print publication, transferring the words and images we craft so carefully onto paper is part of what we do. We’ve also invited two equally awe-inspiring people to model our knits for you this season. Angel Joy Flores and Alicia Roth Weigel are both activists who work towards a more equitable world for the LGBTQIA+ community in Texas and beyond. More than ever, representation of trans and intersex people is vital and we were honoured to work with them. Featuring designs by: Klara Nilsson - Klaryberry, Maren Odenthal - Knitterista, Jess Kavanagh, Julia Madill, Ara Stella, Susanna Kaartinen - Sanna and Co, Joanne Fowler, Amalia Sieber - Kindred Red, Soraya García Issue 44 also includes a celebration of the art of screen printing by Mei Stephens, who muses on the parallels between printing and knitting, and Hannah McGregor’s second contribution to Pom Pom, this time taking on the colour yellow and its cultural history. If you’re looking for a sweet treat, our recipe for bebinca, a layered Goan dessert, will have your mouth watering!

West Yorkshire Spinners The Croft Shetland Double Knitting Collection One

£13.50
The Croft Shetland Double Knitting Collection One - Sarah Hatton and Rosee Woodland Due to the overwhelming popularity of The Croft, West Yorkshire Spinners' much-loved100% Shetland wool range is now available in DK weight. Designed by Sarah Hatton and Rosee Woodland, this collection of women's and men's knitwear features modern colourwork, graphic textures and interesting cables; perfect for layering through the ever-changing seasons. From Sarah Hatton. The introduction of a DK weight in The Croft range was a wonderful opportunity to work with this beautiful yarn. I was lucky enough to work alongside the talented Rosee Woodland who has made great use of the colour range with some stunning colourwork designs. The yarn shows texture incredibly well which allowed me to include some cables in the collection, as well as simple pieces for a relaxing knit. We have included something to appeal to knitters of all skill levels. From Rosee Woodland. Shetland yarn has long been a favourite of mine so I was delighted to see The Croft DK join the West Yorkshire Spinners range. My designs were inspired by the rugged North Sea coastline - from the coils of thick ropes seen on the foreshore, to the prows of fishing boats and of course the wild waters themselves. Working with Sarah Hatton on this collection was also a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with an old friend, whose beautiful designs I have always admired. Featured yarns - Croft Shetland DK
