Pompom Quarterly Issue 36
Patterns

Pompom Quarterly Issue 36

£12.50
Issue 36: Spring 2021 Let's spring into Issue 36! Our first issue of 2021 is inspired by quilts and honours the resourcefulness, practicality, community, and design elements traditionally associated with this textile-based practice! Expect patterns which embrace improvisation, are the perfect home for treasured mini skeins (hello scrap-busting!), and mimic the comfort of a much-loved quilt. Crafts collide within our Spring 2021 collection, as we celebrate how patchwork, embroidery, and sewing are an important part of knitting and crochet as well as arts in their own rights. Featuring designs by: Amalia Sieber, Kindred Red, Ainur Berkimbayeva, Chantal Laplante, Gina Fama Röckenwagner, Inyoung Kim, Julie Robinson, Maria Matveeva, Wencke Pertermann. In addition to 9 unique designs, Issue 36 contains an interview between Sara Trail of the Social Justice Sewing Academy and Emi Ito, in which they talk about Sara's moving intergenerational memorial quilting project, and an article by Sofia Aatkar on crafting and identity expression. It's no secret that the Pom Team adore the colours pink and yellow, so when Gina Fama Röckenwager proposed her Battenberg recipe for inclusion within Issue 36, we jumped at the idea!

West Yorkshire Spinners The Croft Shetland Double Knitting Collection One

£13.50
The Croft Shetland Double Knitting Collection One - Sarah Hatton and Rosee Woodland Due to the overwhelming popularity of The Croft, West Yorkshire Spinners' much-loved100% Shetland wool range is now available in DK weight. Designed by Sarah Hatton and Rosee Woodland, this collection of women's and men's knitwear features modern colourwork, graphic textures and interesting cables; perfect for layering through the ever-changing seasons. From Sarah Hatton. The introduction of a DK weight in The Croft range was a wonderful opportunity to work with this beautiful yarn. I was lucky enough to work alongside the talented Rosee Woodland who has made great use of the colour range with some stunning colourwork designs. The yarn shows texture incredibly well which allowed me to include some cables in the collection, as well as simple pieces for a relaxing knit. We have included something to appeal to knitters of all skill levels. From Rosee Woodland. Shetland yarn has long been a favourite of mine so I was delighted to see The Croft DK join the West Yorkshire Spinners range. My designs were inspired by the rugged North Sea coastline - from the coils of thick ropes seen on the foreshore, to the prows of fishing boats and of course the wild waters themselves. Working with Sarah Hatton on this collection was also a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with an old friend, whose beautiful designs I have always admired. Featured yarns - Croft Shetland DK

Kate Davies Inspired by Islay

Kate Davies Inspired by Islay

£19.99
In this stunning new collection with her own Buachaille yarn, Kate takes inspiration from Islay’s landscape to create twelve new designs. From modern haps to traditional kilt hose; from Fairisle hoodies to cabled cardigans; the designs are arranged in four “stories” each of which explores a different island locale. With their roots in Islay’s distinctive history and culture, Kate’s designs suggest the rich breadth and depth of inspiration the island affords, from the archaeological legacy of the Lords of the Isles to the poetry and song of the Islay bards. In addition to Kate’s patterns, this book brings together beautiful photography of Islay by Tom Barr with essays by four contributors who share their varied local expertise. Gordon Yates introduces Islay’s wildlife, Anna MacQuarrie explores the important legacy of Gaelic in the island landscape, Jane Hunter explores Islay’s geology through the intriguing medium of tweed and stitches, while Susan Campbell tells us more about the island’s handcrafts. Open the pages of this beautiful book, join Kate on a journey to the Hebrides, and you too will be Inspired by Islay. A Ravelry download code is included.

Laine Publishing The Knitted Fabric: Colourwork Projects for You and Your Home

£37.50
The Knitted Fabric: Colourwork Projects for You and Your Home - Dee Hardwicke
Brimming with artistic inspiration and filled with patterns for gorgeous knitwear and joyful pieces for the home, this creative and original book invites you to step inside Dee Hardwicke’s world. Illustrated throughout with beautiful watercolours and painterly photography, The Knitted Fabric brings the pages of Dee’s sketchbooks to life. As Dee explains, “I find the process of knitting very similar to painting, with each stitch being a brushstroke of colour. As stitches loop together, they create a knitted fabric, a kind of narrative of art, making and the people and landscapes that inspire me”. Just like the 20 nature-inspired designs within it, this unique book is something to treasure. Dee Hardwicke is an artist, designer and knitter whose work is inspired by her passion for colour and by her love of the British landscape. Dee’s designs have been used in exclusive collaborations with partners including the National Trust and Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Her previous knitting books include A Story in Yarn: How to Design and Knit an Intarsia Heirloom Quilt (Quail Publishing, 2016) and several titles with leading British yarn producers and designers Rowan. Each design begins life in her sketchbooks.
  • 20 colourwork knitting patterns (9 cushions, 3 wraps, 3 quilts, 2 sweaters, 1 vest, 1 hat, 1 pair of gloves)
  • A fold-out map for the Butterfly Patchwork Quilt

Purl & Jane Matilda Waistcoat
Patterns

Purl & Jane Matilda Waistcoat

£4.50
Matilda Waistcoat - Purl & Jane by Jane Ellison This was another knitter’s request. When knitters visit my Skipton Studio I love chatting with them about garments they would love to knit. This waistcoat was the dream of a new knitter who wanted to knit a garment but was nervous about starting it. We decided something like the Matilda (which was still an idea in that conversation!) would be the perfect garment to start with. There are no sleeves (obvs!), only one button and no picking up stitches. Perfect! It is also a perfect “quick” project for an experienced knitter, one to sit and relax with while watching tv, or reading a book or spending time with friends and family, whatever makes you happy!

Hunter Hammersen Curls 3: Versatile, Wearable Wraps to Knit at Any Gauge

£19.99
Curls 3: Versatile, Wearable Wraps to Knit at Any Gauge - Hunter Hammersen Curls are marvelously flexible, wearable wraps that work with any weight of yarn, can be knit at any gauge, and look beautiful at any size. Knit them small and wear them as a cowl. Keep going to make a scarf. Do a bit more, and you've got a shawl. They form a wonderfully curved shape that drapes beautifully around your neck and shoulders and can be worn in lots of different ways. Use your favourite yarn, and knit at whatever gauge gives you the fabric you like best. You're in charge, you can't mess it up, and you're going to love the result! One small note, the structure of these pieces lends itself much better to charted instructions than to written out instructions. So please be aware that all the patterns use charts. If you're new to charts, never fear. There is a lovely introduction to using charts at the front of the book. Read through it, and you'll be ready to go in no time!

Jane Crowfoot Catalina Beaded Pouch

£6.95
I was so lucky to tutor an amazing textile workshop trip to Peru during the summer of 2024. It is a truly incredible country, and I adored it! This is the pattern for the crochet pouch project that I designed for participants to work on during our trip. It is mainly worked in panels so that the project is portable and easy to work on while travelling. Crocheting just a few stitches in rows can be quite quick to do and using stitch markers will help you keep track of your row count. Peru has an amazing heritage of textile and yarn production, so I decided it was suitable to use a beautiful yarn that includes alpaca fibre from Rowan Yarns. I also used some lovely beads from the Debbie Abrahams range which, I think, give the project an extra special quality.
