Kate Davies Inkling

£20.00
An inkling might be regarded as the very beginning of a thought … After an inspiring residency with the British Council and Applied Arts Scotland, Kate Davies took up inkle weaving and found that the experience of learning a new skill, completely from scratch, profoundly revivified her creative practice. Learning how to weave narrow patterned bands on an inkle loom allowed Kate to reflect upon the interconnections between different cultures and practices of making across the global north and south, and also helped her to approach the design process in a new way. The fifteen creative and colourful projects in this book are the result of such reflections. Alongside eleven patterns for hand-knitting — produced in Kate’s signature clear style, across an inclusive size range—are a selection of simple projects to weave on an inkle loom. This fresh, spirited, and colourful collection reveals the far-reaching creative potential of approaching design with a beginner’s mind and asking oneself, what if? Might you be inspired by some inklings of your own? Book includes 11 garment and accessory patterns for hand-knitting in Kate’s Milarrochy Tweed yarn, plus 4 drafts for plain and pick-up patterns to weave on an inkle loom. A Ravelry download code is included.

Pompom Quarterly Issue 33

Pompom Quarterly Issue 33

£12.50
Issue 33: Summer 2020 The theme for our summer issue is the sun - as we've moved through the classic elements of water, earth, and air for our quarterly inspiration we next looked to fire, by way of this life giving star. The designers have embodied its energetic colours and radiance as their inspiration, creating pieces for this season to enjoy from sunrise to sunset. This issue has two covers, we just couldn't decide on one this quarter! But don't sweat, no matter which cover you receive, exactly the same wonderful content is inside. Featuring designs by: Paula Pereira, Amalia Sieber, Rachael Reese, Isa Catepillán, Nataliya Sinelshchikova, Wencke Pertermann, Erica Sufka, Sandra Gutierrez, Ezgi Tandogan Onat, Julia Wilkens, Marjan Gouda. The sun also shines on Kat Goldin's recipe, a simple handmade pasta flavoured with sun-dried tomatoes and our fun crochet tutorial which accompanies Marjan Gouda's scrunchie pattern. We feel so lucky to have incandescent artwork by Juju Vail to accompany vibrant photography by Shingi Rice, and luminous jewellery from Ilista Studio styled alongside our collection's pieces.

Purl & Jane Frankie Mittens
Patterns

Purl & Jane Frankie Mittens

£4.50
Frankie Mittens - Purl & Jane by Jane Ellison I designed these Frankie Mittens because several knitters expressed a desire to knit socks* but wanted to practise on double pointed needles without turning a heel! While for me and experienced knitters I love knitting Frankie Mittens as they are quick to knit gifts and are great for relaxing evening knitting. One of the most exciting things about these mittens is that the 2X2 is magical. It fits everyone’s hands! I designed the mittens with this rib for this reason and it is so lovely to see it happen! A gentleman, who said he had larger than average hands, tried on the pair in my Skipton Studio and they fitted him. He then took the pattern and yarn to knit his very first pair of fingerless mittens. The Frankie Mittens use 35g/140m of the 100g ball so there is enough to make three pairs with one ball, with perhaps the last one being a little bit shorter than the others. Or great for using up left over sock yarn.
