The Crochet Project The Shawl Project Book Two

£12.00
The Shawl Project Book Two - The Crochet Project A collection of five crochet shawls using Fingering/4ply and Sport/5ply yarns. At The Crochet Project we love a good shawl, and we know you do too so we are back with another collection. Shawls seem to be the perfect project for so many reasons: a mini palette for a new or favourite technique, the perfect showcase some gorgeous yarn, no need to worry about fit, relatively economical to make, and easy to wear. Book Two shawls are a little bigger, a little more solid so a little warmer than Book One shawls. Never fear, we have made them still with the same sense of proportion, beautiful drape and ease of wear you would expect from us. With two skeins to play with on each shawl we explore colour and texture, with more techniques and shapes. In this book we share our love of shawls and show you the secrets of shaping them, tips for incorporating stitch patterns and a beautiful pattern demonstrating each shape. All the examples use two 100g skeins of 4ply yarn, making these patterns the perfect stash buster or excuse to buy a special skein or two. Raid your stash and get pairing! Whether you'd like to learn to design your own crochet shawls or just understand a little more about what makes them so special, this is the book for you.

Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Indigo Dreams & Crimson Dreams Blanket

£8.95
My crochet along project Indigo Dreams was featured in Inside Crochet Magazine between October 2021 and February 2022. The 24 page full colour brochure pattern includes the instructions for the original indigo blue colour way and the new red and cream version. The pattern includes full written instructions, step-by-step images and charts, and is available in UK and US terms. The blanket was inspired by a Kantha stitched bedspread I found on one of my visits to India and by my love of traditional patchwork quilt designs and tessellations. The blanket is possibly one of my easiest designs to date, with many of the pieces based on traditional Granny Square motifs. The project starts off with simple pieces and gets progressively harder.

Pompom Quarterly Issue 47

£17.50
Issue 47: Winter 2023 Pom Pom Quarterly has always celebrated the vibrancy of colours in knit and crochet designs. However, in their latest issue, they decided to explore a monochrome theme and experiment with fabrics that use subtle tonal differences within a single hue or closely related hues. In this winter issue, the designers played with depth, saturation, and brightness to achieve maximum impact with minimum contrast. The result is a collection of stunning pieces that showcase the beauty of understated tonality. Featuring designs by Sara Ottosson, Rebecca Clow, Alessandra Gropazzi, Alexandra Liang, Tetyana Vyazovska, Marie Régnier, Fiona Alice, Catie Robbins, Jesu Camus, Allison Lutes.

Jane Crowfoot Gladsmuir Cushion Cover

I originally designed this crochet cushion cover for the Edinburgh Yarn Festival Publication in 2017. The cover is predominantly made in shades of grey, but has turquoise and chartreuse highlights. I think it would look lovely in multicolours and would make a great stash buster too! The cover uses a few different crochet techniques including block crochet and wave stitches. The cover is made from motifs that are worked from corner to corner and then joined together using double crochet and chain stitches. the back cover is different from the front. Pattern only available in UK terminology. Finished blocked measurement: approx 43.5cm (17in) x 43.5cm (17in) to fit a cushion pad 45cm (18in) x 45cm (18in).

Pompom Quarterly Issue 36

£12.50
Issue 36: Spring 2021 Let's spring into Issue 36! Our first issue of 2021 is inspired by quilts and honours the resourcefulness, practicality, community, and design elements traditionally associated with this textile-based practice! Expect patterns which embrace improvisation, are the perfect home for treasured mini skeins (hello scrap-busting!), and mimic the comfort of a much-loved quilt. Crafts collide within our Spring 2021 collection, as we celebrate how patchwork, embroidery, and sewing are an important part of knitting and crochet as well as arts in their own rights. Featuring designs by: Amalia Sieber, Kindred Red, Ainur Berkimbayeva, Chantal Laplante, Gina Fama Röckenwagner, Inyoung Kim, Julie Robinson, Maria Matveeva, Wencke Pertermann. In addition to 9 unique designs, Issue 36 contains an interview between Sara Trail of the Social Justice Sewing Academy and Emi Ito, in which they talk about Sara's moving intergenerational memorial quilting project, and an article by Sofia Aatkar on crafting and identity expression. It's no secret that the Pom Team adore the colours pink and yellow, so when Gina Fama Röckenwager proposed her Battenberg recipe for inclusion within Issue 36, we jumped at the idea!

Jane Crowfoot Blue House Blanket
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Blue House Blanket

£6.95
The main hexagonal motif used in this project was originally designed to be part of my Frida's Flowers blanket crochet along project in 2016, however I felt it wasn't totally right for the design, so I made an alternative piece instead. Despite its omission from the project, I love the motif and so I named it 'Diego's Flowers' after Frida Kahlo's husband Diego Rivera. The colours for this project were inspired by the décor of Frida & Diego's fabulous kitchen within their home in Mexico City 'The Blue House', which is now a museum. The kitchen surfaces feature bright yellow and blue ceramic tiles and the painted table and chairs that sit at the centre of the room have green and red hand painted details. The large terracotta bowls and cooking pots that are placed around the room are decorated with flashes of orange and pink - all colours that feature in the palette I have chosen for this project. I adore the fun 'fiesta' feeling of this blanket and am really pleased with the outcome of it, but I also love seeing how motifs can be used to make alternative projects, so I asked ace crocheters Marina Kelly, Gemma Biggs and Sue Macdonald if they would like to come up with a couple of ideas for how to use the motifs in another project. Within this pattern we have included some images of the fabulous cushion project made by Marina and the vibrant handy bag project made by Gemma as well as the fun, stash busting mandala that Sue created. I love seeing my designs 'out in the wild' and I think the way Marina, Gemma and Sue have interpreted the pattern is fantastic. Hopefully you will be inspired too! The pattern is written in UK & US terms and it includes written instructions and crochet charts. Please note that this is a pattern for the blanket project. Instructions are included for how to make a hexagon and half hexagon motif. The images of the bag, cushion and mandala are shown here to give you ideas of how you could interpret the crochet motif to make alternative projects.

Pompom Quarterly Issue 40

£12.50
Issue 40: Spring 2022 For our 40th issue we've concocted a knitted dreamworld! Allow our latest collection to transport you to your yarn-filled happy place with joy-bringing patterns which are whimsical without compromising elegance or wearability. The designs reference the seemingly unstructured nature of dreams through floaty fabrics and ethereal embellishments, loose gauge, and by gently emboldening the maker to use their intuition when it comes to playing with colour. As with anything that appears effortless, copious amounts of imagination and clever thinking form the foundation of these designs and they encourage the kind of creative escapism we cherish in crafting. The patterns in this collection vary in intensity; from ones which will allow you to realise your knitting fantasies to others you could finish with your eyes closed. But rest assured, each one will grant you gratification in a different way. Featuring designs by: Aimee Sher, Allison Lutes, Edda Lilja Guðmundsdóttir, Hanna Lübben, Julie Dubreux, Marie Régnier, Marzena Kolaczek, Pope Vergara, Reed Keyes. In addition to the 10 knitting patterns, our spring 2022 collection contains an article, 'Making a World' by lilith green, in which lilith talks about her experience of autism and how the act of making provides a haven from a world which prioritises neurotypical people. If your goal is to try your hand at a craft other than knitting, learn how to make decorative Polish pajaki with Karolina Merska, or use Stephanie Ganz's recipe to bake Honeysuckle Cream Puffs, divine!

Jane Crowfoot Fields of Gold Blanket

Jane Crowfoot Fields of Gold Blanket

£6.95
I love botanical drawings and so a few years ago I purchased a fabulous book from Kew Gardens with the most wonderful illustrations. There is a page within the book that features sunflowers, hellebores and opium poppy seed heads and it made me think of the fields of sunflowers we walked through on a lovely french holiday a few years ago. I have always loved sunflowers with all of their connotations to heat and sunshine. Vincent Van Gogh, whose series of sunflower still life studies are infamous, saw these stunning flowers as a symbol of friendship and gratitude, so using them as the inspiration for a design was inevitable. As wild poppies are commonplace in fields of sunflowers, it was logical that this design should feature them too. Blocked Measurement: Approximately 120cm (47 1/4in) square

Jane Crowfoot Glad Tidings Wrap
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Glad Tidings Wrap

£6.95
The Glad Tidings Wrap was originally designed as the Advent project for Jimmy Beans Wool in the US and released in December 2021. The original design used 16 mini skeins of yarn, with a new shade added to the design each day in the lead up to Christmas. The design is a great stash-buster if you have lots of little bits of left over 4-ply yarn, or you could use a curated collection of mini skeins. The wrap is made by working a central crochet band which is added to daily. In the Jimmy Beans version the colours used on each side of the central band pretty much matched each other in terms of colour and we have made a version using Scheepjes Whirl, which does the same. You could create a quite different effect by using random shades or treating the wrap like a 'temperature' project where you assign colours to different temperatures and select your yarn according to the warmth of the weather that day. However you choose to approach making the wrap, I hope you will enjoy creating this project. The pattern includes full written instructions, images and charts, and is available in UK and US terms.

Jane Crowfoot Bohemian Blooms Crochet Blanket

Jane Crowfoot Bohemian Blooms Crochet Blanket

£14.95
Bohemian Blooms - Jane Crowfoot This blanket design was inspired by the work of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant of The Bloomsbury Group and in particular their home 'Charleston Farmhouse' and the murals they painted at the nearby Berwick Village Church. I had wanted to design a project using Charleston as my inspiration for many years, so I decided that this project should be a trade heirloom piece. I have used a collection of high end Rowan Yarns, including Soft Yak and Baby Merino Silk in DK weight yarns and have also chosen to use beads for an extra focal point. The patterns for this project are available within a 96 page soft bound book 'Bohemian Blooms', which includes more detailed information about my design inspiration and step-by-step images for each of the crochet motifs. A new take on the traditional CAL style project. Work through at your own speed and in your chosen order using Jane's beautiful colour pattern book to guide you every step of the way!

Jane Crowfoot Gertrude Floral Cushion
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Gertrude Floral Cushion

£6.95
I love my garden and really enjoy watching how it changes throughout the year depending on the season. I would really like to have a more homely and functional mix of flowers and herbs in our outdoor space, typical of cottage gardens, which became popular in the 1870s as a reaction to more formal gardens. One of the positives of a garden of this type is that they are more easily maintained as the compact planting leaves little space for weeds - something I really like the idea of! Crocheted flowers are pretty much my favourite thing to make and I adore adding beads into my work too, so this project was a real joy to design and make. I wanted to create a vintage feel and chose my yarn shades accordingly. I think the little lime green beads provide a lovely pop of colour on the leaves of the dainty crochet blooms. You could always use this pattern to make pretty brooches or to use as part of a larger, fascinator style piece. I adored the velvet smocked cushions that my Auntie Muriel had on her bed when I was a child in the 1970s. I used to love running my fingers over the velvet pile and found the smocked stitching fascinating. The cushions were just so enticing and luxurious that I remember thinking that I would definitely have some on my bed when I was old enough! I have previously recreated the style of these cushions in a knit design I called Madeleine, which was published in my book Homespun Vintage, but I have always wanted to create a crochet version too. When working on the Muriel cushion project I decided to add pretty bobbles instead of smocked style stitching to make a simple accompaniment to my Gertrude cushion, which features pretty flowers and beads. I have always struggled with the way crochet worked in the round can look like it has a 'scar' running through it, so my challenge for this project was to design something that would hide the way slip stitches appear without having to fasten off yarns at the end of every round. The pattern includes full written instructions, step-by-step images and charts, and is available in UK and US terms. Blocked Measurement: to fit 35cm (14in) square cushion pad.

Laine Publishing Crochet Crush

£32.00
Timeless fashion and modern practicality are at the core of Crochet Crush, the book from Molla Mills. The 23 crochet patterns include both ideas for home decor and accessories to brighten up your everyday life. The patterns in the book form a cohesive collection, making it easy for the reader to combine different patterns and change colours to fit their own personal taste. The designs have been influenced by current trends as well as the moods and aesthetics of past decades. Most importantly, however, they have been inspired by Molla’s journeys around the world. Molla Mills (born 1979) is an internationally known Finnish designer who learned how to crochet from her mother as a little girl in Kurikka, Finland. She has studied fashion, marketing and art and has written several crochet books that have been published for instance in Brazil and in South Korea. Molla also designs pattern collections for different yarn brands and travels around the world teaching crochet workshops.

Jane Crowfoot Royal Garden Blanket
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Royal Garden Blanket

£8.95
This pattern is one of four designs inspired by Jane’s trips to the Green Hotel, Mysore, India. There are lots of places within the hotel and its surrounding grounds to sit and relax, but one of Jane’s favourite places is the coffee shop, which is situated towards the back of the building within a lovely atrium, which in turn features a terracotta tiled floor and a central open garden of vines and shrubs. This design is based on two aspects of the hotel gardens: the floor tiles found within the atrium coffee shop and the formal, quilt-like layout of the main garden, which sits to the front of the hotel. The main garden provides another lovely place to relax and features walled flowerbeds full of lovely gold, orange and pink marigolds, fresh green lawns and smartly pruned bushes. In the evening the garden takes on a magical quality when thousands of creamy fairy lights twinkle in the foliage.’ Stitches used: chain, slipstitch, double crochet, half treble, treble, double treble, double crochet 2 together, treble crochet 3 together. Joined using the Continuous Flat Braid method.

Jane Crowfoot Mexican Diamonds Blanket
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Mexican Diamonds Blanket

£6.95
I really love traditional Mexican textiles and often look at woven fabrics, embroidery and crewel work for design inspiration. This design was also inspired by the repeated, jagged edged, diamonds found on woven rugs. I have created a flower motif to sit at the centre of this design to echo floral embroidery; I think the use of surface crochet slip stitches around the outside of the leaves enhances the idea of hand stitching. I am particularly pleased with the flowers that sit on the edge of the blanket as they create a really unusual border. I thoroughly enjoyed designing this project and I hope you will enjoy making it too! Blocked measurement: approximately 132cm (52in) x 110cm (43 1/2in)

The Crochet Project Everyday Wearables
Patterns

The Crochet Project Everyday Wearables

£18.00
Everyday Wearables - The Crochet Project A collection of eight crochet garments and accessories. Maybe it's the somewhat shy exhibitionist in me, but I have always loved making things to wear. The thrill of being able to say "Thanks, I made it." never gets old. When times have been tight or shopping has been an unpleasant process (for various reasons) I've been glad of my ability to combine my favourite leisure activities with the ability to produce interesting and elegant clothing for myself whether by sewing, knitting or crocheting. Whatever your motivation for wanting to create a handmade wardrobe, crochet can readily be used to build a wardrobe full of wearable staples. Often crochet has been viewed as "best for homewares and novelties" and struggled to lose the reputation created in the 1970s of ill-fitting granny square jackets. With an in-depth understanding of how crochet fabric is created, the need for drape and taking fit and construction lessons from both knitwear and dressmaking, I have created pieces that fit well and look great. We understand that making a wardrobe may also challenge your skills. We have included a series of photo tutorials in the book that take the adventurous beginner a step on and cover the skills needed to create beautiful pieces to cherish. Featured yarns - CoopKnits Socks Yeah!, CoopKnits Socks Yeah! DK, Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply, Stolen Stitches Nua Sport

The Crochet Project Pick and Mix

The Crochet Project Pick and Mix

£12.00
Pick and Mix - The Crochet Project A collection five crochet garments and accessories incorporating colourwork designs with endless variations. Using this book, you can create your own completely unique design by pairing your choice of sweater, cardigan or hat with your choice of four colourwork patterns and your choice of four main stitch patterns. They all work beautifully together without the need for any extra maths. We've even included the maths and pattern writing assumptions so you can have a go at designing your own stitch patterns if you'd like to. Each stitch pattern is written and charted, and we have included lots of advice throughout the book to help you create the perfect item even if it is your first garment. Although the colourwork looks complicated, each pattern uses only one colour at a time (no stranding) and we've added some tips on how to avoid getting into a tangle. There's also the chance to make a patch pocket or a hat to get practice with the colourwork pattern before you dive in. We want this book to be for everybody and every body. The patterns are suitable for age 2 upwards, are all unisex and offer inclusive sizing and fitting options. We've used a common weight of yarn that is widely available at all price points, so whether you live for indie hand dyed or want to pick up your yarn at the discount supermarket, this book will work well for you. The Crochet Project The Shawl Project Book 5
Patterns

The Crochet Project The Shawl Project Book Five

£12.00
The Shawl Project Book Five - The Crochet Project A collection of five crochet shawls using laceweight yarns. At The Crochet Project we love a good shawl, and we know you do too so we are back with another collection. All the previous books in the collection featured designs for 4ply/fingering weight yarn. This one is a bit different: each pattern uses laceweight yarn. I used to be slightly afraid of finer yarn, I found it fiddly and thought it took too long to work up. But as I started to play around with it, I created patterns that are naturally quick to grow and where the need to find tiny spaces to put your hook are minimised. Now I love laceweight: it gives a finesse to every pattern you create with it and the delicate stitches can add a layer of magic to even the most ordinary stitches. The shawls themselves are light as a feather and so small to pack into a bag. As for the extra time? Just see it as better value for money on your hobby! The ultimate in slow fashion. Find the joy of laceweight for yourself with this selection of five patterns. This pattern is charted and written using standard UK crochet terminology (with US conversions given in the abbreviations).

Jane Crowfoot Beaded Christmas Decorations
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Beaded Christmas Decorations

£8.95
These brightly coloured beaded crochet decorations first appeared in Inside Crochet magazine, issue #130. They use small amounts of Stylecraft Naturals Bamboo + Cotton yarn, but you could use any left overs of DK weight yarn. The 16 page pattern includes step-by-step instructions (with images) for adding beads to your crochet. There are 4 decorations included in the pattern, each shown in two alternative colourways. I love putting the decorations on the tree or around the house at Christmas time. I have a really eclectic assortment of hanging baubles, adornments and trimmings that I use to make our home feel festive. Our decorations have been collected over the years - some belonged to Andy's Grandparents and we have baubles we found whilst on trips away and some were made by our children when they were small. My favourite is probably the paper angel with a head made from a ping pong ball, with a wonky smile drawn in felt tip pen and a dress made from a paper dolly that Charlie made when he was at primary school. I think he cringes a little when I pop it on the tree! I love the way unpacking the decorations year after year and arranging them around the house brings back lots of lovely memories and good feelings. Handmade decorations make extra special gifts as they convey that sentiment too and are a great way of using up odds and ends of yarn from your stash. I have used 4 shades of yarn for a more contemporary, simple look, but I think these would also look great made with all sorts of yarn types and colours with added buttons, beads and ribbon to add in a big splash of fun! I am a bit of a magpie. I am a sucker for a bit of bling and get easily side-tracked by sequins, sparkles and shiny things. These days I find it a little easier to resist the temptation of glistening, shimmery items as I wander around the shops, but I am still madly in love with the technique of adding beads to my crochet. I loved creating these twinkly decorations, which would look great hung from the tree or worn as a stunning corsage.

The Crochet Project The Shawl Project Book 3
Patterns

The Crochet Project The Shawl Project Book Three

£12.00
The Shawl Project Book Three - The Crochet Project A collection of five crochet shawls using Fingering/4ply yarns. We really weren't expecting there to be a The Shawl Project: Book Three. Despite so many requests, we decided it wouldn't be right unless we had a great new idea. Book One was all one skein shawls, Book Two all two skein shawls, Book Three would need to have a purpose too (and three skein shawls seemed a bit tenuous). We knew Book Three was on its way when we were at a wool festival and kept musing on the uses for all the lovely mini skein sets we kept seeing. The patterns work well whether you want to invest in mini skein sets or if you want to use up small amounts of yarn left over from other projects that is just too nice not to use (sock knitters will identify with this problem in particular), with each pattern using either a 100g pack of 4ply mini skeins or a pack of mini skeins and an additional 100g of 4ply yarn. In this book we share our love of shawls with five new designs and show you the secrets of shaping them. Patterns are written using UK crochet terminology with US conversions given in the abbreviations section. Patterns are charted where appropriate. Schematics are provided throughout.

I love how decorating the house at Christmas time brings back so many family memories. We have some decorations that date back quite a few generations and I especially like these old pieces. When setting out to design this bunting I wanted to create some crochet motifs that echoed the shape of our precious vintage Christmas tree baubles. I have added beads, bells and little 'shisha' mirrors to add a touch of sparkle and I am so pleased with the results. The pattern for the bunting is written with three classic shades in mind - Navy, Mustard and Grey, but you could raid your stash for multicoloured left overs to create a very different, vibrant look.

Jane Crowfoot Beaded Pine Winter Mitts

£6.95
In the winter months I get really cold hands, especially when typing, knitting, or crocheting, so I am always on the lookout for things to keep my fingers and wrists warm. I find mitts less restrictive than gloves and I have quite a few pairs so that I can mix and match what I am wearing. I think mitts help keep aches and pains in my wrists at bay during the cold weather too, as they keep everything nice and toasty! I wanted to design a pair of mitts with a simple ‘Scandi’ feel, looking at pine forests and snowy landscapes as the inspiration. The beaded tree is a little tricky to create, but I am so happy with the way it turned out after lots of sampling! To begin with the mitts are made as a flat piece from the top down, with the edging and cuffs made in the round afterwards. You can choose to make them with the beaded tree or without.

Jane Crowfoot Magic Circles Scarf

£6.95
I love looking at how shapes fit together and had wanted to create a tessellating circle design for some time. Circular motifs can be tricky to fit together and it is common to find the circular shape becomes slightly distorted when motifs are pieced together, so rather than create motifs that are square or octagonal, I have designed cross-shaped infill pieces that protect the shape of the large circles. Finished blocked measurements: approx 117cm (46in) x 117cm (46in).

Jane Crowfoot Lotus Flower Shawl

Jane Crowfoot Lotus Flower Shawl

£6.95
Within the City Palace complex in Jaipur there are four gate buildings that surround the inner courtyard, which leads to the Chandra Mahal - the main palace building within the complex. The four gates are adorned with themes that represent the four seasons and Hindu Gods. The Lotus Gate, which sits to the Southern side of the courtyard, and is dedicated to Lord Shiva-Parvati was the inspiration for this design. The Lotus Gate represented the summer and the incredible painted patterns within the archway around the central wooden doors feature a continuous fanned flower tessellation and Lotus flowers in full bloom are featured on the facade. The Lotus Gate alone features a huge amount of wonderful surface pattern and therefore design inspiration, but it is the Peacock Gate, which sits to the Northern side of the courtyard and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the winter season, which is the most ornately decorated. If you ever get a chance to visit Jaipur, you must make sure you go to the Palace and seek out the gates, or, if you're not likely to visit India, you can always search online. The design is relatively easy to crochet. It is a "join as you go" project, which you could find a little tricky if you have never done it before. The printed brochure pattern includes lots of step by step images, charts and diagrams to help.

Jane Crowfoot Catalina Beaded Pouch

£6.95
I was so lucky to tutor an amazing textile workshop trip to Peru during the summer of 2024. It is a truly incredible country, and I adored it! This is the pattern for the crochet pouch project that I designed for participants to work on during our trip. It is mainly worked in panels so that the project is portable and easy to work on while travelling. Crocheting just a few stitches in rows can be quite quick to do and using stitch markers will help you keep track of your row count. Peru has an amazing heritage of textile and yarn production, so I decided it was suitable to use a beautiful yarn that includes alpaca fibre from Rowan Yarns. I also used some lovely beads from the Debbie Abrahams range which, I think, give the project an extra special quality.

Pompom Quarterly Issue 39

£12.50
Issue 39: Winter 2021 The knit and crochet designs in Issue 39 are inspired by rhythm! Our Winter 2021 collection is packed with patterns which honour echoes, explore semitonal shifts in colour, and include repeating motifs to allow you to get into a stitching groove. We love how the designers have taken our auditory theme and created patterns which highlight the aspects of rhythm we see, such as written musical scores and the visual representation of soundwaves. No matter at what tempo you craft, there's a winter project for you here! Featuring designs by: Judith Brand, Astrid Colding Sivertsen, Adella Dutra, Ana D, Tetyana Vyazovska, Johanna Kunin, Nidhi Kansal, Keiko Kikuno, Cleo Malone, Valerie Ng. Artist, maker, and stylist Lydia Morrow was the creative director for this issue's photoshoot! We've long admired Lydia's jazzy sense of style, so we're honoured to publish her vision in our pages. After you’ve found your crafting cadence, enjoy the two articles in Issue 39. In 'Rhythms of Handiwork', Felicity (Felix) Ford explores the communal and historical relationship between craft and rhythm, while Claudia Khan writes touchingly about the delicate melody of parenthood, partnership, and time in her article, 'A Family Song'. Kiyomi and Sachiko Burgin are the authors of this issue's handmade lip balm tutorial, so you can combat chapped lips brought on by cold weather and even have some non-knitted handmade gifts ready for the festive season.

The Crochet Project Three fom the Top

£12.00
Three from the Top - The Crochet Project A collection of three crochet cardigans for babies, children and women. At The Crochet Project, if you can’t wear it, generally we don’t make it. And our favourite thing to wear is a cardigan. Whether it is a cosy cardigan to snuggle into or a light one to slip over your shoulders to keep the chills off, cardigans are the ultimate all season wear. Cardigans do variable weather and heating systems better than anything else. We have included an extensive size range to make this a go-to book for everything from baby gifts to enhancing your own wardrobe – there is a size to suit every person in your life. The advantage of this is that if you are nervous about the time and financial commitment of making for yourself, you can build up your confidence by making the designs in a smaller size first. Top down seamless design is our favourite way of working. You can try on as you go to ensure great fit. There are no seams to sew and very little finishing to do – minimum time from fastening off to wearing it. Crochet has plenty of natural structure in the stitches that seamless garments hang very well. All of the designs call for 4ply/fingering weight yarn (although one is listed as sport weight). This is a collection of cardigans we know you are going to love to make and love to wear. Each has a quiet simplicity to it and enough detail to keep it interesting. All patterns are written using standard UK crochet terminology (with US conversions given in the abbreviations) and charted where appropriate.

Jane Crowfoot Delft Blanket

£8.95
The Delft crochet blanket was inspired by Jane's love of blue and cream pottery. She loves the way the octagon motifs create the idea of tessellating decorated plates. I have always been a lover of blue and cream pottery. When I was a child we would often visit my elderly auntie for afternoon tea and so were used to seeing the ‘Willow Pattern’ on sandwich plates and teacups. The pattern featured an elaborate Chinoiserie design that was popular towards the end of the 18th Century. Despite having an oriental style of design, pottery featuring the Willow Pattern originally came from Stoke-on-Trent, but a lot of pottery featuring the design also came from China via the East India Company. Jane Crowfoot Mystical Lanterns Shawl

£6.95
The name of a repeated tessellating design, like the one I have used in this design, is called an 'Ogee' pattern in Arabesque design. It took me a few weeks to get the design of these blocks right; initially I came up with lots of really complicated ways to create this motif, but in the end it was so simple - funny how sometimes a design process can take so long and then the outcome can be so easy to make! The pattern for the lantern shape motif is based on a granny hexagon pattern, but I have made a few changes to come up with the curved design the tessellates. Finished measurements: Pre-blocked measurement - 146cm (57 1/2in) at widest point (along top edge of shawl) 78cm (31in) deep from central point to bottom edge. Blocked measurement - 158 (62in) at widest point (along top edge of shawl) 84cm (33in) deep from central point to bottom edge.

Jane Crowfoot Halley Beaded Pouch

Jane Crowfoot Halley Beaded Pouch

£6.95
When I am on a night out, I find large bags cumbersome, and I always worry about putting it down and forgetting about it. I tend to travel light and often just pop my bank cards, a couple of keys, my phone and maybe a lipstick into a bag before heading out. A small pouch is the perfect size for me, and I especially like cross body bags with long straps which mean I don’t have to worry about taking it out and losing it! I have a few bags that meet my needs, but I wanted to create a special little pouch that would be just the thing for a sparkly evening out or party – the perfect little accompaniment to that extra special outfit and I am so happy with how this project turned out. I chose three yarn shades for my bag and two bead colours, but you could simplify things by using one yarn and fewer bead colours, or you could really glitz things up by making each beaded hexagon a combination of yarn and bead colours. I am excited to see what you come up with.

My Indian Roses blanket design was inspired by a trip to Mysore, India where I came across some lovely vintage ceramic tiles that featured pretty roses at the centre. My amazing sister-in law, Julie, adored bunting. Any excuse for a party and Julie would be there with a step ladder and loads of bunting to decorate the room! Pompom Quarterly Issue 29

£12.50
Issue 29: Summer 2019 The nine designs in this issue were inspired by ceramic tiles, terracotta, and sand, so expect earthy shades with splashes of colour and organic, repeating patterns. For your summer wardrobe, we have essential summer tops and tees, a cardigan, a shawl, and a crochet bag - all light and breezy for warmer days. Featuring designs by: Amy Christoffers, Sari Norlund, Soraya García, Isa Catepillán, Clare Lakewood, Josée Paquine, Marjorie Martin, Rachael Reese, Stephanie Earp. This issue includes an interview with Emi Ito, who answers our questions of creativity and misappropriation. 'Learning and Unlearning' unpicks the issues of cultural appropriation and diversity: important topics which we have been re-evaluating. We also have yarn-free projects to enjoy while the sun shines. If you're on the lookout for a new craft to try, we have a project bag tutorial by artist Arrounna Khounnoraj of Bookhou. She'll show you how to block-print your own fabric, perfect for creating your own tile-inspired tessellating patterns! Plus Rebecca Lawrence's recipe for her Maple Bourbon Fudge is an easy way to whip up an impressive sweet treat to share with friends.

Pompom Quarterly Issue 46

£17.50
Issue 46: Autumn 2023 Collaborating with creatives we admire is one of the great joys of making Pom Pom. Candice English of The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers has been an inspiration to us for a long time, both as a dyer and as an advocate for Indigenous women. We are thrilled to welcome Candice as Guest Editor for this issue. Candice has brought a fresh perspective to these pages, along with her distinctive aesthetic, drawing from both her Indigenous roots and life in the American West. We are so grateful to her for sharing herself, her work, and her family with us. It’s an honour to be trusted with the stories and creativity of each contributor to this autumn issue. The patterns in this issue are a representation of hard and soft duality in the American West. The hard work embedded in the people of Montana is a result of the softness you find in the spirit of Indigenous homelands. You will find classic designs that can be worn in utilitarian ways but also jazzed up a bit for social outings. Featuring designs by: Allison Lutes, Esti Juango, Elena Solier Jansà, Natalie Bullock, Sandy Jones, Lindsey Fowler, Lena Zharichenko, Lee Ann Yazzie, Imke von Nathusius, Tin Can Knits

Jane Crowfoot Summer Palace Blanket
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Summer Palace Blanket

£6.95
The blanket design was initially inspired by an image of a printed cushion cover I found in a magazine, but having visited the Tipu Sultan's summer palace near Mysore in India a few years ago I was inspired to look at the design again and link it into my Mysore collection. I feel that the design reflects the wonderful carved and painted wooden pillars and painted friezes found within the building, but the original version also retains it's slightly Scandinavian looking design, which I originally felt echoed traditional fairisle design and would be the perfect cosy feeling winter blanket. I revisited the design for the wrap version and felt that the wonderful colours within the range of Baa Ram Ewe's lovely yarn 'Pip Colourwork' reflected the elaborate carved and painted wooden pillars and painted friezes found within the building. Finished blocked measurements - approximately 123cm (48 1/2in) x 123cm (48 1/2in)

Jane Crowfoot Magic Circles Blanket
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Magic Circles Blanket

When making the small infill circles you are asked to make a magic loop to start. You can find a technique download that explains how to do this by following this link. Instructions on how to add surface crochet can be found by following this link. The pattern includes a clear layout plan and a chart is also included for reference when joining the small circles. Finished blocked measurements: Approximately 117cm (46in) x 117cm (46in).

Pompom Quarterly Issue 32

£12.50
Issue 32: Spring 2020 Spring is just around the corner to reinvigorate us with longer days and buds bursting forth. We’re welcoming sweet spring breezes with our first theme of the new decade: air. This precious and fragile element unites us, and our designers translated this ethereal concept into tangible knits and crochet. Each pattern captures the spaces between the stitches, with gauzy mohairs, modern lace, and airy open textures. Featuring designs by: Amalia Sieber, Brontë Swannick, Camila Larsen Esveile, Joji Locatelli, Lana Jois, Mara Licole Taylor, Meghan Fernandes, Nataliya Sinelshchikova, Rosemary (Romi) Hill, Wencke Petermann. For art direction and styling, we collaborated with multi-disciplinary artist Ocean Rose to capture this collection of atmospheric patterns. Ocean also lends their talents for a how-to on flower arranging so you can create your own welcome to spring with a floating botanical decoration. Your taste buds will be catered for by Kat Goldin's meringue recipe, and finally we have an interview with body-positive activist and designer Jacqueline Cieslack. Pause, take a deep breath and find your space this spring.

Jane Crowfoot Hollicarrs Beaded Scarf

£6.95
Hollicarrs is a beautiful crochet scarf with a subtle bead pattern that enhances its lovely drape. The project could be worn as a traditional scarf or a smart shawl and I love the way the beads catch the light. The beads are added into the stitch as you crochet using the half treble stitch (US half double). You can find a YouTube video that shows the technique by following this link. This lace and bead scarf design was originally published in Rachel Atkinson's book Daughter of a Shepherd: Volume One. The pattern was written for a DK weight of yarn, but has now been updated using 4 ply. If you choose to make it in a yarn other than Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply please make sure you calculate the yarn amounts and work a tension piece first. The pattern includes written and charted instructions and is available in UK & US terminology. Finished blocked measurements: Approximately 25cm (9 7/8in) x 154cm (60 3/4in).

Jane Crowfoot Persian Tiles Blanket
Patterns

Jane Crowfoot Persian Tiles Blanket

£6.95
This crochet blanket design is based on traditional Persian ceramic patterns. The project is relatively simple in construction, consisting of just 4 different motifs; the main octagon piece surrounded by variations on granny squares and triangles. In 2013 I designed a project for my crochet club using Persian and Moroccan textiles and architecture as my inspiration. The resulting blanket was exclusive to my crochet club members, so the pattern is no longer available. It is a theme I wanted to revisit though, as the colours and shapes work so well in crochet and we are constantly asked for a project that echoes the original design. This blanket is simpler in construction than the original crochet club project and there are just four different motifs within the design; the main octagon piece, of which you need to make sixteen, is surrounded by variations on granny squares and triangles in shades of blue and cream. The project is relatively simple to make and I really enjoyed designing it. Pattern available in UK & US terminology, includes written instructions and charts. Blocked measurement: approximately 115cm (45 1/4in) x 115cm (45 1/4in).
